Tweets of the Week chapter 4

Hey all, gotta confess I was a little busy this week and the TotW are a little on the light side but what they lack in quantity hopefully they make up for in quality. For those who want to make sure their TotW-worthy postings are seen, might I suggest you DM me after your post.

Also, I've cleaned out some of my follow clutter and am looking for some topical and funny folks to follow - all suggestions will be followed (for a while, at least.)

Thanks for checking back!

Watching Rocky, drinking Theraflu from a hotel glass while reading my wife's Bachelor tweets 3k miles away. Reminds me of the night we met. @sportsguy33 - I prefer Pertussin with club soda, as George Costanza says: "It's quite refreshing."

Rugby is grown men dressed like bumblebees reenacting a prison shower scene @therealcarl2 - I played Rugby once at JSC - lasted 30 seconds and someone hit me so hard I didn't care that the girl was trying to impress saw me cry.

Soccer is just a bunch of kickers that couldn't make it in the NFL @therealcarl2 - Did I mention my first rule if I was named world soccer czar would be the first goal wins and goalies can't use their hands. Now that's a sport!

Just watched my show. Is it just me, or do I look like a women’s basketball coach? @ConanOBrien - I was thinking a woman, a very skinny, big-headed woman. Named Skeletor.

This next series of posts - which came in five minute intervals for 25 minutes - are why, if I could only follow one person on Twitter, it would be @OzzieGuillen.

Why the pizza take so friking long

Nice pizza for my diet yess ready for springtraining

I going to star my diet in arizona ease help

Please help me to lose my panza @OzzieGuillen - WTH is a panza?

Que comica en la asamblea de venezuela que ejemplo estamos dando que lastima que gente como esa decidan en nuestro pais que bolas tienen - I'm guessing this post means either he was he was happy with his pizza, found his panzas or assembled a comic in Venezuela.

Today I received my 1099 for 2010, covering book royalties. Thirty-three dollars and ninety-nine cents. O, the glamorous world of authoring! @RobNeyer - Blogging (and journalism) are just as (not) lucrative.

Enosburg hangs on for a 29-39 win. @LamoureuxPhoto - Unless they are playing golf, this score is only half right - just picking big guy - (but seriously, the higher score always come first).

When Ray Kinsella takes Terrence Mann to Fenway, 2 dogs and 2 beers costs $7. Field of Dreams really is a fantasy. Still love it @PeteAbe (Two dogs and a soda at any high school sports game comes close these days - man, that's an old - but great flick.)

What a week for @Twitter. No better place to comment on the #Grammys or to help overthrow the government of #Egypt. @TomCaron - Amen!

This Bieber/Usher thing is kinda creepy. Someone call child protective services. @jivanjames - Amen again - a real MJ-Culkin vibe - I expected Bubbles burst onto the scene at any moment.

That's all I got - not a lot - but a month has passed and TotW is alive and well. Whoda thunk it?

I'm playing for the Vermont Voltage now ... sort of

Sure, it feels a little chilly still, but here it is April 11 and I've already been to a half-dozen spring sports games. Pretty remarkable, really.

And there's a lot more to come.

I've adjusted my schedule to allow me to get to more games this spring than last year and will once again keep those who care about such things up to date with my travels and tribulations in the days and weeks to come.

I also want to announce a new partnership of sorts with the Vermont Voltage. CHP will be the official photographer of the Voltage this summer and I will be working with the team as a public relations consultant.

This is very exciting news - I've known team owner Bo Vuckovic for over a decade and have marevelled in what he has created in Franklin County. We've toyed with the idea of joining forces off an on again over this span of time, but finally the stars aligned and I'm happy that CHP and the VV are able to team up - here's hoping its the start of a long relationship!

While I'm at it, I would like to thank these organizations for officially jumping on board the Cold Hollow Photo train and allowing me to take their team/individual photos this spring.

Johnson State College softball - my first-ever college gig - a lot of fun and some friendly faces to boot - former Enosburg stars Julie Gervais and Maria Lovelette were on basketball teams I helped coach at Enosburg H.S. and Kaitlyn Mackey was a BFA-St. Albans slugger I covered over the past few years. There were also a trio of players from my alma mater - Hazen Union - inlcuding one, Desiree Lacasse - whose father was a next-door neighbor for a while when I was growing up - man that makes me feel really old.

Northwest Ice U-10 AAU Basketball - Thanks for Shaun Montague and Jeannette Larivee for thinking of me for their team photos. A cute group, to be sure!

Fairfax-Westford and Milton Little Leagues - Our first two Little Leagues! (I've done tons of LL photos, but always as a photographer working with VSI) Very excited to add these groups to the CHP roster - always a little nerve-wracking the first time around, but my contacts there are super to deal with so I'm feeling very excited about this opportunity. Thanks Mary Beth and Cheryl for putting your faith in CHP!

Vermont Voltage Youth Soccer Club - This one is still in development, but the plan is to take their photos sometime in May and is an offshoot of my new relationship with the Voltage.

Thanks one and all for working with CHP and thanks, too, for those schools and leagues that we work with that I didn't mention. You are all very important to me and I appreciate our relationship. While it sounds like we are busy - and we are - there's always room for growth. If you know of a team/school/league that wants to have its photos taken by CHP, just shoot me an email shawn@coldhollowphoto.com or call me 782-5317. If you'd like to see samples of our work, check out the sample page on my website.

Take care and see you on the sidelines.

Shawn

Super Saturday

Don't have a ton of time to post today, but would be remiss if I didn't throw a few lines on the blog about my experience Saturday.

Marqus Blakely celebrates in the final minute of the Cats' 83-70 win over Boston University in the America East championship game. Had the good fortune to be part of a four-man crew - reporter John Fantino, blogmeister Alex Abrami, photog Ryan Mercer and myself - cover the UVM men's basketball team's America East championship game at Patrick Gym on Saturday.

Some folks have emailed to say the saw me during the ESPN2 coverage of the game - not too surprising - I was on the endline and nearly got bonked with a botched alley-oop by Nick Vier to Marqus Blakely in the first half.

It was a singular thrill to be a part of that environment. Short of an airport, Patrick Gym had to be the loudest place in Vermont on Saturday and with good reason - the Cats led from start to finish, although there were some tense moments in the second half.

I helped fill a photo gallery online from the game, had a shot on the cover of the sports section, another inside, a cover shot on the Vermont section and a full page of photos in the Vermont section. I also wrote a short sidebar story about Evan Fjeld, the junior who lost his mom to cancer earlier this week.

I make go into a greater detail after a Freeps desk shift tonight and post some photos.

For now, I want to give huge kudos to my mates at the Freeps - as a temporary part-timer I don't always feel a part of things, but they were nice enough to include me in the coverage and I as honored to be a part of the finished product. Also, heavy kudos for behind-the-scenes folks like Kevin Commo and Doreen Wright who handed the editing and designing of the printed product. People love to bash the Freeps now and then - and sometimes rightly so - but love em or hate em you have to respect the work they did covering the game yesterday - from the online stuff, to the paper to the blogs inbetween and during games.

Two final shout-outs - great to see ex-Channel 5 guy Chris Kelley manning the camera on the endline for the Deuce. Chris is a top-shelf newsie and an even better chap. I'm in his NCAA pool each year and he always lets me slide on the payment until the last minute - thanks pal!

Finally, Alex Abrami not only covered the men's tournament game with tons of blog updates, he raced to Hartford and covered the women's game. Not bad for a soft Rice guy. But seriously, great effort Double A.

If you are intersted in seeing the work these guys put together, here's a link to hoops coverage on the Freeps site.

If you want to see some of the photos I took, here's a link to a photo gallery - my shots are near the end, but Ryan's are well worth a look, too.

Finally, I took over 1,500 photos from the game, from Fan Fest at 10 a.m. to cutting down the nets and EVERYTHING in between. I will post them soon and let you know when I do.

Skating on ...

I'm still sick, it's very late and so I'll keep this short.

For those who have asked about the remaining high school sports photos - these will be up sometime next week - sorry about the delay, but hang with me - this head-cold/flu bug has robbed me of 3 days of work and I'm working the Green Mountain Figure Skating Open at Cairns in conjunction with Vermont Sports Images this weekend.

If you are a figure skating folk who stumbled onto my blog, welcome. Should you need to reach me in person for any reason, shoot me an email at shawn@coldhollowphoto.com or call me on my cell phone 802-782-5317.

All of Friday's photos will be online by 8:30 a.m. Saturday.

Anything taken before noon in Rink 1 Saturday should be up by 5 p.m. Anything after that, will be uploaded late Saturday night or more likely on Sunday. Anything taken on rink 2 will not be up until Sunday at the earliest, maybe Monday. All of Sunday's events will be uploaded, most likely, on Monday.

Again, if you think we've missed putting up your photos, feel free to contact us - as you can tell, it's a VERY hectic shoot, but all events and all skaters are getting photos taken during their competiton events and all wll be uploaded as soon as possible.

Thanks for your patience and your business!
