On the Sidelines in Birds, Canada Gesse in Winooski, Fowl Play

While waiting to take team photos of the Winooski Middle School softball and baseball teams today I came across a couple of gesse (gooses? gessae?) playing on the infield at Hawthorne Field.

I warily approached at first, hoping not to scare them off, but they were not shy.As I approached, one of them took to the mound.Shortly thereafter its (team)mate creeped in from the shortstop position. As if on cue, one of the two struck a profile pose. Perhaps it knew it was destined for immortality on my blog.Suddenly, they took of on a double-steal!But one of them got picked off - or tried to pick off something to eat. The detour seemed to fowl the play and confusion ensued.Their cover blown, there was nothing left to do but make a quick getaway. Now that was something you just don't see everyday
